A group of 15 Year 6 children have experienced the thrills and pressures of the film world first hand. Their brief was to produce a digital video programme lasting up to two minutes on the theme of 'A day in the life of children at Somersham School'. This will be presented by the children to an audience of parents and relatives during the Year 6 Leavers' Farewell Assembly on Friday 18th July 2008.
Working in teams and starting with the creation of a story board and video log, the children were able to call on the help of experienced film makers from local company QAV Ltd. Gordon, a freelance cameraman and film producer, assisted the children as they collected visual and sound footage, and this was then edited using professional software with the help of Luke.
The children were excited about entering the film world as producers and directors. Charlotte explained: "It was challenging because you needed to have the right amount of sound, otherwise the microphone would not pick up. You also needed to stick to the storyboard (your plan of the film). We used 2 digital video cameras, one for close-ups and the other for wider, background shots. I now understand that to be a good film maker, you need to be organized, focused, calm under pressure, a good leader, and confident that you will get the right shots."
Take a look at the children's final digital video presentation and judge their film making skills for yourself.
The year sixes enjoyed another Education Journey at Dunfield House last week, made especially significant because it was Mrs Cole's last, after some 25 years of taking children on this adventure.
A presentation of the events is now available to view online.
The Key Stage 2 sports day was held on Tuesday 1st July, and the Key Stage 1 on Wednesday 2nd July. Key Stage 1 narrowly missed a major downpour!
A photo slideshow of these events is now available online. Most of these pictures are of Key Stage 1 - if there are any Key Stage 2 parents that took good photographs that could be added to the slideshow, please send them to the office!
