Band Perform at Rotary Concert

29 March 2007

After their success at the regional Rotary Young Musician competition in February, the Somersham School Band were invited to perform at a Rotary Concert held at Hinchingbrooke School on Friday, 16th March. They opened the concert and the audience applauded their performance enthusiastically – the “surprise” in the Surprise Symphony certainly caught them unawares, as can be seen on the video extract!

The following weekend the Band went on to take part in the Southern Semi Final of the Young Musician 2007, held at Moulton School, Northampton on Saturday 24th March; another winning performance means that they are now through to the Final, which will take place on Sunday, 29th April, 2007 in Melton Mowbray. Best of luck to the band and many, many thanks to their long-suffering parents/chauffeurs, and to Band leader Mrs Frances Marsh for all support and encouragement.

You can view the children’s live performance at Hinchingbrooke School online.

News Update (21 February 2007): Investors in People Revalidation

It is with great pleasure that we can announce that the School has successfully been re-validated as an Investor In People (IIP) Organisation. The validation was accompanied by a detailed report, which summarised:

Somersham has successfully established an excellent reputation for the provision of child-centred education where every child matters and every child receives a first class education under the leadership of the Headteacher and his extended management team. The school is deeply committed to ensuring high standards and aims to create a secure, caring and stimulating environment.

You can read the report which is available for download.
