Kids Zone : Book of the Month

In this section, pupils from the school recommend books that they have enjoyed reading.

Kensuke's Kingdom (January 2008)

James and Ashton in Barn Owl Class:

Kensuke’s Kingdom is a very adventurous tale. The story begins with the main character, Michael’s parents losing their jobs so that the family needs to rely on his wages from delivering newspapers. They are forced to move from their house to a boat and so begins a new life traveling around the world, even though Michael is scared of the sea. Then they meet a huge storm. Washed up on an island in the Pacific Ocean, Michael struggles to survive on his own with no food or water, and he is ready to curl up and die. He wakes to find a plate beside him filled with fish and fruit, with a bowl of fresh water.

We found this story really imaginative and exciting – we hope you will as well.
